Why total volume does not settle every MOQ

A customer may add several colours and delivery destinations together and conclude that the total volume is sufficient. During quotation review, a particular component or colour may still fall below the applicable quantity condition.

In actual discussions, I have encountered different counting bases for different components. A shared blank component may allow combined assessment, while components produced separately by colour or line cannot simply use the project total. That distinction needs explaining before the quote.

I ask for a demand table showing product revision, colour, component, quantity, production arrangement and delivery requirements. A destination describes delivery; a production batch describes manufacturing. They should not automatically become the same grouping.

I then ask the people assessing the work to explain what can be shared, what requires separate preparation and how quantities are counted. Sales should not decide in advance that everything can be combined, or apply one project’s arrangement to another.

    • Does the quantity condition apply to the finished pack, a component or a production batch of one colour?
    • Can the demands share the same blank, material and process arrangement? Who confirms this?
    • If quantities can be combined, do separate delivery schedules or preparation requirements still apply?

Keeping “can be combined” and “calculate separately” in the table explains the quotation more clearly than a single total.

    A possible reply is:

We will assess the quantities by component and colour. Some shared components may allow combined volumes, while separately produced parts need their own assessment. Please provide the demand by colour and delivery schedule so we can state the applicable quantity basis in the quotation.

If the colour mix, production location or demand schedule changes, I seek confirmation of the counting basis again.

Before asking whether the volume is enough, establish which volumes belong together.
