Turn a launch ambition into usable planning inputs
A customer visit that covers future launches and growth can create considerable excitement. I have encountered discussions combining channel plans, demand estimates and longer-term cooperation.
The information matters, but it does not replace written requirements, a product scope or internal approval. I want to bring back inputs that can be assessed, alongside the opportunity.
Identify the current stage
Section titled “Identify the current stage”I separate confirmed items, customer plans and exploratory possibilities. Channel arrangements, product lists, timing and initial versus continuing demand need their own supporting information.
If several quantities describe different scopes, I clarify units and boundaries before adding them into a total.
Separate current supply from future cooperation
Section titled “Separate current supply from future cooperation”Samples, acceptance standards, orders and delivery for the current product continue through their established route. Future production arrangements or commercial support need separate assessment of resources, technical preparation and approval conditions.
Customer expectations for cooperation are not supplier commitments. In internal reporting, I describe both the opportunity and missing inputs so decision makers know what can be assessed next.
Request specific follow-up information
Section titled “Request specific follow-up information”- The confirmed product scope and stage.
- Written definitions of initial and continuing demand.
- Required timing and customer decision points.
- The supplier’s requested scope and what still needs assessment.
A possible meeting summary is:
The discussion helped us understand the growth direction. To develop an actionable support plan, please provide the product scope, demand pattern and confirmed milestones. We will progress current supply and long-term cooperation assessment separately, then align what we can commit to.
After recognising an opportunity, bring back the information needed for the next decision.
